They preached to us to be kind right from birth,
They preached hard work will be rewarding and a gauge of one’s worth,
We were taught to be kind and stand up for those that needed protection,
They told to put ourselves in others shoes and not act without reflection,
We were told to put our trust and faith in those who swore an oath to protect,
They taught us living like Christ will lead to a life with no regret,
Why is it now when we try to do these things our hands are slapped like a bothersome child,
Why are actions like empathy, fairness, compassion all considered wild,
When you ask why I’m not a good soldier anymore, why the constant pushback,
And I ask you why your honor, sense of reason, and basic human kindness are in lack,
With indignation you ask what radicalized you,
And I’ll let you know you raised me like this so what happened to you?
